Handling & Care
Keep your duvet perfect for years
In order for the duvet to last as long as possible, good handling is essential. Avoid lying, jumping, sitting, rolling it around you, and crushing the duvet, if this is done, the down in the duvet will gradually be damaged and it will not last as long. It is best to air eiderdown duvets and pillows regularly.
Choose a time when the weather is dry and it doesn’t hurt if the sun is shining. It varies how often people like to air the duvet, but it is good to aim to air it anywhere from weekly to once a month. Airing rids it of dust Do not hit the comforter when airing it and also avoid shaking it a lot/hard.
Always use a duvet cover and pillowcase around the duvet/pillow. Choose good quality duvets cover and pillowcases. Lightweight materials are better for the duvet. When you change the duvet cover, turn the duvet over on the other side inside the cover, it evens out the load on the duvet if it’s not always turned on the same side. King Eider recommends covers made of bamboo or silk.
When making the bed in the morning, it is good to ventilate the room well, e.g. by opening a window. It is good to turn the side up that faced you during the night. In this way, the duvet cools down faster and any moisture that has gotten into it during the night evaporates.
If the duvet is stored e.g. during summer, store the duvet in the cotton bag that comes with it. Be careful not to roll it up too tightly before placing it in the cotton bag. It is important that the duvet cover is well ventilated. Moisture trapped in the duvet can lead to the down being damaged/decayed.
If a mishap occurs and it is necessary to clean the duvet more thoroughly than to just air it, we strongly recommend taking it to those who specialise in cleaning down duvets. The duvets and pillows can withstand washing in exceptional cases, but then it is necessary to wash in a sufficiently large washing machine and use a short program, e.g. hand wash or wool wash with a good down soap.
Do not wash it at a temperature higher than 30°C. If the duvet/pillow is washed, it is necessary to put it in the dryer. If there are conditions to dry the duvet a little before putting it in the dryer, that is an advantage. Always try to reduce washing machine time as much as possible. When a duvet is put in the dryer, it needs to be removed several times and shaken outs a little during the drying time. Please note that when a duvet is washed, King Eider’s warranty for it is voided.
